Principals Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,
This promises to be an exciting year of learning for all of our students. My name is Rae Fearing and I am the principal of Mountain Elementary School. Prior to this, I taught science at Del Norte High School for 12 years. For the last 4 years, I have worked for the Del Norte County Office of Education as the Director of EducationalTechnology and Science Implementation Coordinator. I have an Associates of Science degree in Natural resources, A Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science and a Master of Science degree in Science Education with a minor in Mathematics Education.

All three of my children graduated from Del Norte Schools and two of them took my Biology class while I was teaching at Del Norte High School. I believe all students can learn at high levels and look forward to getting to know and supporting the needs of each student this year.

Part of my responsibilities this year at Mountain is to develop a STEM Program (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). In a world that’s becoming increasingly complex, where success is driven not only by what you know but by what you can do with what you know, it's more important than ever for our youth to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of large amounts of information. These are the types of skills that students learn bystudying science, technology, engineering, and math—subjects collectively known as STEM.

Additionally, my goal for this year is for all students to demonstrate progress and learn at high levels. We willcontinue to focus on literacy and mathematics as well as the newly adopted science standards. Our smallenrollment numbers allow us to personalize and focus instruction for each student.

This year we have two new teachers, Mrs. Felicia Caraway in grades K3and Mr. Ross Morgan is grades 48. You can learn more about each of them on the teaching staff page. When I am not on site Mr. Morgan will be the teacher in charge.

Our entire staff is committed to providing each student the highest quality education possible. We know how important it is to continue to work with our active parent group and community to support all of our students.

Thank you for your continued support and if you ever have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contactme.
